SKN | Lycia Therapeutics Raises $318 Million in Upsized IPO at Top of Range

Date:

Lycia Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing protein-degrading therapies for food allergy and Graves’ disease, raised $318 million in an upsized initial public offering (IPO), pricing shares at $18 each, the high end of its proposed range. The company sold 17.6 million shares, exceeding its original plan of 14.7 million shares. At the offering price, Lycia’s fully diluted market capitalization reached approximately $1.1 billion.

Company Background

Founded in 2019 and based in South San Francisco, California, Lycia Therapeutics is developing treatments designed to degrade disease-causing extracellular proteins, with an initial focus on autoimmune, inflammatory, and allergic diseases.

Its technology is built around the Lysosomal Targeting Chimera (LYTAC) platform, which is based on research by Nobel laureate Carolyn Bertozzi at Stanford University. The platform is designed to target extracellular proteins associated with disease.

IPO Details and Pricing

Lycia raised $318 million by offering 17.6 million shares at $18 per share, the upper end of its initial $16 to $18 price range. The company had originally planned to sell 14.7 million shares, making the final offering approximately 27% larger than initially planned at the midpoint of the original terms.

The IPO values Lycia at approximately $1.1 billion on a fully diluted basis. The company will trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol LYCA.

Jefferies, TD Securities, Evercore ISI, Guggenheim Securities, and LifeSci Capital acted as joint bookrunners for the offering.

Pipeline and Clinical Development

Lycia’s lead candidate, LCA-0061, is designed to degrade immunoglobulin E (IgE) for the treatment of allergic diseases, including food allergy. The candidate is in a Phase 1 clinical trial. Preliminary results from the first cohort of eight healthy atopic participants, including two who received placebo, showed a mean maximum IgE reduction of 96% from baseline among those who received the treatment.

The company is also advancing LCA-0062, a second IgE-targeting candidate that remains in investigational new drug (IND)-enabling activities. Separately, Lycia is conducting a Phase 1 trial of LCA-0321, designed to selectively degrade the autoantibodies that drive Graves’ disease.

These programs represent the company’s initial clinical efforts across allergic and autoimmune conditions. The reported IgE reduction is an early finding and does not, by itself, establish clinical efficacy, long-term safety, or the durability of treatment effects.

Market Context and Opportunities

The upsized offering and pricing at the top of the proposed range indicate that Lycia secured a larger IPO than initially planned at the stated terms. The resulting $1.1 billion fully diluted market capitalization places the company among clinical-stage biotechnology businesses accessing public markets to support drug development.

Lycia’s LYTAC platform and its pipeline targeting IgE and disease-driving autoantibodies are central to its development strategy. However, the available information does not disclose the company’s planned use of IPO proceeds or provide enough detail to assess how the new capital will be allocated among its clinical programs and other operating requirements.

Risks and Challenges

Lycia remains a clinical-stage company, and its principal programs are still in early development. Preliminary biomarker results must be followed by additional clinical evidence to determine whether the treatments can demonstrate meaningful benefits for patients.

Advancing multiple candidates will also require continued research, clinical testing, and regulatory work. Although the IPO provides substantial gross proceeds, the available source does not detail the company’s operating costs, cash runway, or expected development spending.

Closing Insights

Lycia Therapeutics raised $318 million in an upsized IPO, pricing at $18 per share and reaching a fully diluted market capitalization of approximately $1.1 billion. The offering provides capital for a company developing protein-degrading therapies across allergic and autoimmune diseases. Its next milestones will depend on clinical progress and the ability to translate early findings into evidence of safety and therapeutic benefit.
