  • The launch broadens Invesco’s innovation-focused ETF offering across international developed and emerging markets as investors reassess geographic diversification amid changing trade and supply-chain dynamics.

Invesco Ltd. has expanded its QQQ Innovation Suite with the launch of the Invesco Nasdaq International Innovators 100 ETF (QQI), giving investors targeted exposure to innovative companies outside the United States. The new ETF extends the suite’s innovation-focused approach internationally through a rules-based index methodology, adding a geographic dimension to Invesco’s broader Nasdaq-tracking ETF platform, which the company says has more than $500 billion in assets under management.

Company Background: Expanding an Innovation-Focused ETF Platform

Invesco is a global asset management firm that provides investment products and strategies to institutions, financial intermediaries and individual investors. The QQQ Innovation Suite is built around identifying companies exhibiting characteristics associated with innovation, growth and profitability. With QQI, the firm is extending that framework beyond US-listed companies to capture businesses operating across international markets.

The new ETF was developed in collaboration with Nasdaq, continuing a relationship that the companies say has spanned more than two decades. Brian Hartigan, Invesco’s global head of ETFs and index investments, said the strategy is intended to give investors a broader view of innovation across geographies, while Nasdaq’s Cameron Lilja said QQI extends the innovation-focused approach of the suite to companies outside the United States.

ETF Details: QQI Targets 100 International Innovators

QQI seeks to track the Nasdaq International Innovators 100 Index, which selects 100 companies from the Nasdaq Global ex United States Large Mid Cap Index based on their Innovator scores. The methodology evaluates factors including research and development intensity, revenue growth and profitability to identify businesses demonstrating a strong focus on innovation.

The portfolio is designed to reflect the relative size of companies included in the index and is reviewed quarterly. Unlike a conventional IPO, the launch does not involve a fundraising target, proposed share price or market capitalization for Invesco. Instead, QQI provides investors with an exchange-traded vehicle for accessing a rules-based basket of international companies selected according to the index methodology.

Market Context and Growth Opportunities

The launch comes as investors reassess international markets amid changing trade relationships, evolving supply chains and greater attention to geographic diversification. By focusing on companies outside the United States, QQI gives investors a mechanism for gaining exposure to innovation trends across both developed and emerging markets, rather than concentrating the strategy exclusively on US companies.

The index methodology also emphasizes measurable corporate characteristics rather than relying solely on sector classification. Research and development intensity, revenue growth and profitability are incorporated into the selection process, potentially allowing the ETF to capture innovative businesses across different industries and geographic markets.

Risks and Challenges

International equity exposure introduces risks that differ from those associated with US-focused ETFs. Currency movements, geopolitical developments, regulatory differences, trade policies and varying economic conditions can influence the performance of companies held by QQI. Emerging-market holdings may also carry additional market and liquidity risks.

The launch nevertheless represents a meaningful expansion of Invesco’s innovation-focused ETF offering. By extending the QQQ Innovation Suite beyond US companies, QQI gives investors another route to participate in global innovation while maintaining a rules-based selection framework. Its performance will ultimately depend on how the selected international companies translate research investment, revenue growth and profitability into shareholder returns, as well as how international markets perform relative to the US.
